Coronavirus | Latest numbers The number of coronavirus cases in India stands at 198241 with the death toll at 5604. Maharashtra's total case tally crossed the 70,000 mark with 2,361 new Covid-19 cases reported across the State on Monday to take the cumulative tally past 70,000. 2. U.S. elections | Primaries become test run for campaigning during coronavirus Tuesday's primaries in eight states are the biggest test to date of campaigning during the coronavirus era, a way for parties to test-drive new ways of getting out the vote during a time when it can be dangerous to leave your home. Voters from Pennsylvania to Iowa to New Mexico will cast ballots in both the Democratic presidential contest and a host of down-ballot primaries for everything from governors to state representatives. 3. Monsoon arrives in Kerala, 'severe cyclone' to hit Maharashtra, Gujarat - followup The monsoon has arrived in Kerala, the IMD said on Monday. Further away, from the west coast a cyclone was brewing in the Arabian Sea and likely to hit north Maharashtra as well as the Gujarat coast by June 3. 4. As 5th phase of lockdown begins, Gujarat cities start 'unlocking' Life returned to near normal in many parts of Gujarat, notably in Ahmedabad, the state's worst coronavirus-hit district, as several restrictions were eased in the fifth phase of the lockdown that began on Monday. Roads bustled with traffic as people came out in large numbers to visit markets, which are now open till 7 pm in all areas except in containment and micro-containment zones. 5. Lucknow gets respite from heatwave, parts of UP to get rain on Tuesday State capital Lucknow got some relief from the intense heatwave on Monday as the maximum temperature settled at 36.4 degrees Celsius, four degrees below normal, the Met office said. The minimum temperature in the city was 25.4 degrees Celsius. According to the meteorological department, 7.3 mm rainfall was recorded in Ballia and 0.8 mm in Gorakhpur. 6. AP CM to visit Delhi on Tuesday, likely to meet home minister Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is scheduled to visit the national capital on Tuesday to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and others to discuss various issues, including Polavaram and other irrigation projects, official sources said. 7. Some private bus operators to resume services in West Bengal from Tuesday A section of private bus operators in West Bengal has decided to resume services on different routes in the city and in the districts from Tuesday. The buses will, however, run on an experimental basis and depending on the financial viability, a decision will be taken later on continuation of services. 8. Goa: Market closed, wholesale fish traders threaten strike The Margao Wholesale Fish Markets Association has called for a strike from Tuesday on import of fish, which may bring about a shortage of the item in several parts of Goa, especially since inclement weather at sea has kept trawlers off over the past couple of days. Margao Wholesale Fish Markets Association president Maulana Ibrahim told reporters its members will go on strike from Tuesday. 9. U.S. protests | Music industry pledges anti-racist 'Black Out Tuesday' Major music industry labels are pledging to halt business Tuesday, in solidarity with anti-racist demonstrators demanding structural social change and an end to police brutality. Atlantic Records, Capitol Music Group, Warner Records, Sony Music and Def Jam were among the many organizations vowing that #TheShowMustBePaused, as mass protests have rocked US streets for days following the killing of an unarmed black man, George Floyd, at the hands of police in Minneapolis. 10. Shramik Spl to take 1,600 migrants from MP to WB Nearly 1,600 migrant labourers will return to their native West Bengal on a Shramik Special from Indore at 1pm on Tuesday, an official said. It will halt at Bairagarh in Bhopal and passengers will be taken to Durgapur and Bardhaman in WB, Western Railway Divisional Railway Manager Vineet Gupta told PTI.
