Here are the big stories that you need to follow today: Partial disengagement on the border In today's major news development, there are finally signs that the border standoff with China is reaching some sort of denouement. Troops of both countries began partial disengagement from some of the standoff points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh, defence sources said today. Major General-level talks are scheduled tomorrow, where further steps will be discussed. "Partial deinduction has happened from some points in Galwan area and Hot Springs area. The Chinese side removed some of the tents and some troops and vehicles have been moved back," sources said. This comes days after senior military commander-level talks on June 6 to end the tensions. Finger 4 area in Pangong Tso is a contentious area and will take some time to be resolved, sources said. This will likely be taken up at the Lieutenant General level at a later stage if needed. Central teams in 50 pockets With much of the country opening up, the containment strategy for Covid-19 seems to be shifting focus toward pockets with the highest case load and spike in cases. High-level multi-disciplinary Central teams have been deployed by the Health Ministry in 50 districts/municipal bodies to provide technical support and facilitate management of the outbreak. A State-wise break-up of where these districts/municipal bodies fall: Maharashtra (seven districts/municipalities), Telangana (four), Tamil Nadu (seven), Rajasthan (five), Assam (six), Haryana (four), Gujarat (three), Karnataka (four), Uttarakhand (three), Madhya Pradesh (five), West Bengal (three), Delhi (three), Bihar (four), Uttar Pradesh (four), and Odisha (five). The Health Ministry today said that these teams would help the State/UT authorities to address challenges such as testing bottlenecks, low tests/per million population, high confirmation rates, high testing confirmation rate, risk of capacity shortfall over the next two months, potential bed shortage, growing cases fatality rate, high doubling rate, and sudden spike in active cases. Withdraw complaints against migrant workers: Supreme Court The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the government to withdraw complaints lodged or penal action taken against migrant workers who violated the national lockdown and set out on foot to reach their native villages. "Withdraw all complaints against migrant workers under the Disaster Management Act of 2005," a Bench led by Ashok Bhushan said in a directive. The court ordered the Railways to provide States with 171 more Shramik Special trains to transport migrant workers. It ordered the States and the Union Territories to complete their transportation within the next 15 days. In addition, the Bench also directed that counselling centres should be set up to explain to the migrant workers the various schemes framed for their rehabilitation and employment. It added that the States and the Union Territories should conduct extensive skill-mapping of the workers at village and block levels. In Brief: In view of the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the State, the Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday cancelled the State Board Class 10 public exams, which were scheduled to commence from June 15. Exams for Class 11 for the remaining papers (subjects) also stand cancelled. The DMK-led opposition and the AIADMK's ally PMK had demanded cancellation of the exams. The head of the World Health Organisation has warned that the coronavirus pandemic is worsening globally. While the situation in Europe is improving, cases are surging elsewhere. At a press briefing on Monday, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus noted that about 75% of the cases reported to WHO on Sunday came from ten countries in the Americas and South Asia. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has been suffering from fever and sore throat, tested negative for Covid-19 on Tuesday evening, according to AAP sources. On the other hand, BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia has tested positive for Covid-19 and has been admitted to Max Hospital, Saket, sources told PTI. The President of Burundi Pierre Nkurunziza (55) has died of a heart attack. A government statement said that he was admitted to hospital on Saturday after feeling unwell.
