Your guide to how Washington shapes business and the economy
| WED, MAY 13, 2020 | | | Hello, Today, we have a slew of stories that dig into the new coronavirus relief bill proposed by House Democrats, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi. It will likely not become law as written. However, it does lay out key priorities for Democrats, including hazard pay for front-line workers, continued enhanced unemployment benefits, aid to state and local governments, and a rollback on federal limits for property tax deductions. Here are other key stories we're covering: - The majority-conservative Supreme Court appears to be split on whether President Trump's banks and accountant must turn over his financial records, including tax documents, to state and congressional investigators.
- The fight over whether Michael Flynn's fate has escalated yet again. After the Justice Department said it would drop its case, a judge has delayed his decision on the matter and said he would seek outside advice. Flynn's lawyers opposed the judge's move.
- Former Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort has been released from federal prison and will serve the rest of his 7.5-year sentence in home confinement. The decision comes as coronavirus spreads rapidly through prisons.
- Joe Biden is trying to maintain some presence in the media as coronavirus coverage dominates the news. On Tuesday, he urged governors to listen to Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has become the administration's most credible voice on the virus, as they reopen their economies and the disease spreads.
