1) Coronavirus | Latest numbers The number of positive cases reported in India stands at 77,980 with 2,545 fatalities. The Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund, better known as PM CARES, will allocate ₹3,100 crore to COVID-19 relief, including funds for ventilators, migrant workers and vaccine development, according to an official statement from the Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday evening.
2) Coronavirus | $3.6 million in U.S. funding to Indian labs may be delayed The funding could run into delays since the U.S. Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has been placed on watch list since December 2019. A response from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), which is the overseeing authority for all such collaborative research, is awaited.
3) Economic stimulus package - more announcements expected In the first of what is expected to be several press conferences spelling out details of the 20-lakh-crore economic stimulus package, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday announced a ₹3 lakh crore collateral free loan scheme for businesses, especially micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Further announcements are expected today.
4) Four flights to bring stranded people from abroad to Odisha At least four repatriation flights are scheduled to land in AT Biju Patnaik International Airport. “We are expecting an Air India flight at 9.15 am on Thursday from Dubai taking about 150 repatriated passengers,” a senior AAI official said.
5) First special train to Assam arriving with 1,000 passengers on Thursday Around 1,000 passengers from Delhi are set to arrive in Guwahati on Wednesday night on board the first train to the State since limited rail services resumed in the country, a senior Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) official said. The special train will arrive in Guwahati at night and reach its destination Dibrugarh on Thursday morning, he said.
6) Home delivery of liquor in Maharashtra Maharashtra is likely to start home delivery of liquor from today till the end of the lockdown.
7) Bangladesh to extend shutdown till May 30 Junior Minister for Public Administration Ministry Farhad Hossain said the official notification to extend the shutdown is likely to be issued on Thursday, simultaneously ordering stringent enforcement of health directives asking everyone to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr indoors.
8) Nirav Modi extradition trial - follow up The hearing this week, initially scheduled to end on Friday, is now likely to conclude on Thursday after a final witness is produced by Modi’s lawyers.
9) Karnataka Cabinet likely to give nod on Thursday to ordinance on Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee reforms Governor Vajubai Vala returned it citing procedural reasons.
10) Senate Foreign Relations Committee plans to vote on Thursday Trump’s nominee to head U.S. Agency for Global Media U.S. Agency for Global Media runs VOA and its sister outlets like Radio Free Asia, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and the Cuba-focused Radio Marti. The Republican-controlled committee is expected to vote on party lines to advance the nomination.
11) Netanyahu to be sworn in PM Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Wednesday that he has cobbled together enough lawmakers to form a government.
