Here are the latest updates and the big news stories to follow today: 1) India surpasses China coronavirus tally Going by the numbers declared by different states and union territories, India has now surpassed China’s official tally of 82,933 confirmed COVID-19 cases. As it stands, the death toll due to COVID-19 across India has risen to 2,752 and the number of cases has climbed to 85,762.
2) Lockdown 4.0 guidelines expected Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday held several meetings with his ministry’s officials ahead of the announcement of guidelines for the fourth-phase of the coronavirus-induced lockdown that begins from Monday, officials said.
3) Mizoram extends lockdown Mizoram has extended the lockdown to tackle the Covid-19 crisis till May 31.
4) Around 6,000 migrant workers to return to Bihar in special trains from Greater Noida on Saturday Officials in Gautam Buddh Nagar, adjoining Delhi in western Uttar Pradesh, are also trying to get one more train to ferry the stranded workers to Bihar and are awaiting permission from the railways, they said.
5) Delhi launches online portal to register construction workers The Delhi government on Friday launched a website, to be functional from Saturday, for registration of construction workers in the city.
6) Liquor shops to open in Tamil Nadu on Saturday; colour coded tokens for crowd management at outlets The Supreme Court’s order paved the way for resumption of liquor sale in Tamil Nadu through Tasmac retail vends.
7) Pakistan to resume domestic flights from Saturday The Pakistan government last week said that it would begin a phased lifting of the lockdown due to its effect on the economy and the workforce.
8) German football returns and takes step into unknown The German league takes the spotlight on Saturday as the first top European league to resume during the coronavirus pandemic, with one coach admitting it feels like “flying blind”.
9) NIA arrests key conspirator in Visakhapatnam espionage case The National Investigation Agency on Friday arrested key conspirator of the infamous Visakhapatnam espionage case, which involved 11 Naval personnel allegedly leaking sensitive information to Pakistan’s external snooping agency ISI. Mohammed Haroon Haji Abdul Rehman Lakdawala was produced before a local court in Mumbai for seeking a transit remand and he would be produced before a court in Vijaywada on Saturday, the NIA said.
