Here are the latest updates and big stories that you need to follow today: 1) Coronavirus | Modi video message at 9 a.m. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at his second video conference with Chief Ministers on Thursday told them that it was “important to formulate a common exit strategy to ensure staggered re-emergence of the population once the lockdown ends.” 2) Coronavirus | President, VP to hold second video conference with Governors, LGs on Friday This will be the second such conference, a statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan said. 3) Coronavirus | SC takes cognisance of condition of children protection homes amid COVID-19 A bench of Justices L Nageswara Rao and Deepak Gupta would hear through video-conferencing on Friday a suo motu (on its own) case titled ‘In Re Contagion of COVID 19 Virus in Children Protection Homes’. 4) Coronavirus | Banks to start transfer of Rs. 500 to women Jan Dhan account holders from Friday This is the first of the 3 monthly installments under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana announced last week. As per the schedule, women PMJDY account holders having account number with last digit as 0 and 1 will get the money in their account on April 3, while account number ending with 2 or 3 can approach the bank on April 4. 5) Coronavirus | Half of humanity in virus confinement The measures — which include compulsory or recommended confinement, curfews and quarantines — are in place in more than 90 countries and territories. The introduction of a curfew in Thailand, which takes effect on Friday, pushed the number past half of the global population. 6) Coronavirus | Oman to evacuate stranded citizens from Kochi on Friday The Oman Air flight will arrive directly from Muscat at Cochin International Airport at 2 p.m. 7) Coronavirus | Karnataka moves SC against Kerala HC order for opening of borders and NHs The plea will be taken up for hearing by a bench of Justices L Nageswara Rao and Deepak Gupta on Friday. The plea said that the order of the Kerala High Court has been passed wholly without any jurisdiction and is thus liable to be set aside. 8) Coronavirus | U.P. CM asks officials to monitor situation at old-age homes Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi said a lump sum pension will be given to the beneficiaries on Friday. Orders have been issued to Amazon and Flipkart to start delivery services in the state, Mr. Awasthi said. 9) Coronavirus | 3,000 sailors to leave U.S. aircraft carrier So far, fewer than 100 of the nearly 5,000 sailors assigned to the USS Theodore Roosevelt, now docked in Guam, have tested positive for the virus, but the Navy is moving sailors into various facilities and probably will begin using hotel rooms in the coming days. Navy leaders are talking with government officials in the US territory to identify rooms for the crew members. 10) Coronavirus | Trump to meet with oil executives over cratering energy market U.S. President Donald Trump said he will meet US energy executives this week to discuss plummeting oil values amid coronavirus and a Saudi-Russian price war.
