Coronavirus and the campaign
EDITOR'S NOTE
Hello,
Yes, there was a debate Sunday night. And there are primaries scheduled for Tuesday.
Four big states are slated to hold their nominating contests this week: Arizona, Florida, Ohio and Illinois. The former Vice President Joe Biden is the overwhelming favorite to win in each state, according to data analysis site FiveThirtyEight.
If Biden wins big, this thing might as well be over. As of Sunday night, NBC News had Biden leading with 854 delegates compared with 701 for Sen. Bernie Sanders. A candidate needs to win 1,991 delegates to secure the Democratic nomination. Sanders isn't known to go easily, sure, but calls for him to drop out will intensify if he is the obvious loser Tuesday night.
A big reason for that is the Democratic Party will be eager to lock in its presumptive nominee for the brutal campaign to come against President Trump. Even with the coronavirus pandemic and its increasingly dire impact in the United States, this is an election year. And it's more important than ever that Americans get a say on who will be steering the ship beyond this dramatic, defining moment in our history.
