Research shows that "books written by women [are] less likely to be reviewed or win the most prominent book awards." In an effort to raise the visibility of female writers, Canadian novelist Susan Swan teamed up with her friend in book publishing, Janice Zawerbny, to create a new annual prize for female fiction writers in the U.S. and Canada. Women now hold more than half of the jobs in fields where social skills and "fundamental" skills are important, according to a new analysis from the Pew Research Center. As a result, women in these fields are seeing faster growth in their paychecks than men. "Women's salaries are growing faster than men's because they hold more of these high-skill jobs" (MarketWatch)
