Biden: Comeback kid or flash in the pan?
EDITOR'S NOTE
Hello,
Joe Biden is favored to win the South Carolina primary tomorrow. Some polls have him winning by a comfortable margin. Others have him up only slightly over Bernie Sanders, the race's current front-runner.
Either way, Biden needs the win. He has never won a state primary or caucus in his three runs for president. His argument for electability is pegged in large part to his appeal among black voters, who make up a big bloc of South Carolina Democrats.
But a big win, in the double digits, would potentially give him momentum to make some real noise on Super Tuesday, which is just days away. While Sanders is nearly a lock to take the day's biggest delegate prize, California, Biden is in better spots in big states such as Texas and North Carolina, as well as other southern states such as Arkansas and Tennessee. He would probably be better off, too, if Mike Bloomberg had stayed out of the race and let his checkbook do the talking.
