Amazon tells employees to pause nonessential travel in US due to coronavirus | | | FRI, FEB 28, 2020 | | | | TECH, TRANSFORMATION AND THE FUTURE OF WORK | | Think a friend or colleague should be getting this newsletter? Share this link with them to sign up.
Good afternoon,
As the markets around the world continue to crater, and companies cancel events and non-essential travel, there are already signs that the novel coronavirus crisis may be abating. The growth of new cases in China has slowed, and Apple's Tim Cook is "optimistic" that the government there is getting the situation under control and that Apple's factories there are back online. The CEO of the National Retail Federation also says that supply chains are also recovering.
That said, Amazon is telling its employees not to travel unless it's absolutely necessary, and Facebook is the latest company to cancel a big event (its developer conference).
So, mixed messages. Unfortunately for managers, there aren't many clear answers on how to minimize risk while not overreacting (and therefore creating disruption). How is your company managing the threat of coronavirus? Please write us at work@cnbc.com and let us know!
