Trump on trial
| EDITOR'S NOTE
Hello,
After a historic week for the Trump administration and the country, it's time to get ready for ... well, another historic week.
This week, President Trump signed a "phase one" trade deal with China, the Senate approved his updated North American trade pact, and his impeachment trial officially kicked off. Next week, the president will again find himself at the center of crisscrossing currents.
On Tuesday, he is slated to travel to Davos for the World Economic Forum, where he is expected to give a speech to the global elite. It's a good bet he will tout progress with China and perhaps set the stage for his next trade conflict with the EU.
Also on Tuesday, however, the Senate will begin in earnest Trump's impeachment trial. The senators, who will serve as jurors, were sworn in Thursday, along with Chief Justice John Roberts, who will preside over the proceedings.
Several Democratic lawmakers from the House, including Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler, will make the case for convicting Trump and removing him from office. On the other side, the president's team includes Ken Starr, whose investigation led to the impeachment of President Clinton, and Alan Dershowitz, who previously defended O.J. Simpson and deceased sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein.
It's a good thing we have a three-day weekend. We're going to need our energy when Tuesday arrives.
Thanks for reading.
