Happy New Year! If you thought we'd moved on from trade in 2020, think again. China's commerce ministry confirmed today that Vice Premier Liu He will travel to D.C. next week to sign the "Phase 1" trade deal on Wednesday. But what about the status of "Phase 2?" President Trump tells CNBC's Eamon Javers that it will "take a little time" and might not be finished until after the election.
The Trump administration continued its deregulation push, unveiling changes to the 50-year-old National Environmental Policy Act that would make it easier for federal agencies to approve infrastructure projects (ie: oil pipelines, mines, dams) without considering climate change. Emma Newburger has all the details on what business groups and environmentalists are saying about the new proposal.
We now have a better idea of what the political ad landscape will look like on social media in 2020. Facebook has announced it will allow users to exercise more control over what political ads they see, but won't limit targeting. This follows a decision by Twitter to ban political ads outright, and by Google to limit ad targeting. For a full recap of all the policy changes, check out Ryan Browne's report.
We've got a busy year ahead, and will keep you posted as we finalize our 2020 calendar of events in DC. Stay tuned!
