Recent polls show that Americans are increasingly in favor of an impeachment inquiry into the president's dealings with Ukraine over Joe Biden, a leading contender for the 2020 Democratic nomination.   Trump has ceaselessly tweeted about the investigation. He has taken an especially extreme approach, quoting a pastor warning about a potential "civil war" and questioning whether Adam Schiff, the House Intelligence Committee chairman, should be arrested for treason.   Mitch McConnell's response to the probe is another important development.
