Eero rolls out two new subscription offerings focused on security

Mesh networking company Eero announced today that it is introducing two new subscription services that work in conjunction with its mesh routers. Dubbed Eero Secure and Eero Secure+, the new subscription options bundle security features, as well as third-party integration with 1Password and more.

Denon targets Sonos Beam with two new AirPlay 2 sound bars

Sound bars have covered a lot of ground over the last decade. Technology like Dolby Atmos has significantly reduced the gap between surround systems and a mere sound bar with subwoofer. Simple connectivity seems to be the latest push in the space with the launch of two new Denon AirPlay 2 sound bars.

Dubbed DHT-S516H and DHT-S716H, both new models are marketed as premium with 4K HDMI input(s), Class-D amplification, and HEOS, for easy to manage multi-room playback with compatible speakers. Users of Alexa or Google Assistant will also be able to control these sound bars when using either voice assistant.

Apple TV+ show 'Dickinson' to premiere at Tribeca TV festival on September 14

Apple will premiere its Apple TV+ original TV show Dickinson at the Tribeca television festival on September 14.

The company will screen the first episode to festival attendees and then hold a panel with the show screenwriter Alena Smith, and stars Hailee Steinfeld (who plays Emily Dickinson) and Jane Krakowski (who plays Dickinson’s mother).

Microsoft announces Surface event for October 2, could launch new dual-screen hybrid

Microsoft today announced that it will hold a Surface-focused event on October 2nd in New York City. This event comes in the midst of Apple’s fall event season, with the company expected to introduce new iPhones, iPads, and a 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Apple releases first developer beta of iOS 13.1 before iOS 13 actually leaves beta

Apple is releasing a new iOS 13 developer build today. The release comes just under one week since the last round of iOS 13 beta releases. Interestingly, Apple has labeled this week’s release as iOS 13.1 developer beta, suggesting that beta testing iOS 13 has ended. watchOS 6 developer beta 9 is available and labeled as such.

Apple’s public beta builds should follow at a later date after the latest developer beta has been tested in the wild.

Apple testing smarter Siri web answers for Spotlight search queries

Apple is testing a new type of search result format for some questions. As spotted on Reddit, Spotlight Search can now answer some typed-in questions with direct answers, rather than a generic list of web results.

The listing highlights the extract, which should hopefully answer the question, along with the source website and a button to report a concern if the result is inappropriate.

Three more airlines announce partial bans on MacBook Pro models [U]

Update: Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways have also announced partial bans. As with the FAA rule, affected models are banned from both cabin and hold baggage unless verified as having had the battery replaced.

A new safety precaution has seen all MacBooks banned from checked baggage on Virgin Australia flights due to fears over battery fires. They are still permitted in cabin baggage.

While some might consider the blanket ban an overreaction, it’s actually a pretty sensible approach that is unlikely to inconvenience many…

Report: Instagram developing standalone 'Threads' app with location sharing, messaging, more
