iOS 12.4 jailbreak publicly released after Apple mistakenly unpatches vulnerability

A hacker has released the first public jailbreak for modern iPhones in several years, according to a new report from Motherboard. The report details that with the release of iOS 12.4, Apple accidentally unpatched a vulnerability that it had originally fixed in iOS 12.3, opening the door for this jailbreak to be publicly released for iOS 12.4.

Astronaut uses iPad and djay app to deliver first-ever live DJ set from space

Exclusive: Apple planning $4.99/month price for Arcade game subscription service after free trial, works with Family Sharing

Last Saturday, 9to5Mac got access to Apple’s early access program for Apple Arcade, which was announced back in March when the company held its special event dedicated to Services. Apple Arcade will allow iOS, Mac, and Apple TV users to pay a flat monthly fee and access a bundle of otherwise paid apps through the App Store. Now we’ve discovered that Apple Arcade will likely be priced at $4.99 per month.

Disney+ will let you subscribe on iOS and tvOS using in-app purchase, offers TV app integration

Disney today confirmed new availability details for its upcoming Disney+ subscription streaming service, which goes live in the US on November 12 for $6.99 per month.

The company confirmed that it will roll out apps for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. Interestingly, they will also let you subscribe to Disney+ from inside the app, which means Apple will be able to take its typical 15% to 30% commission on subscription revenue.

Apple says it's created 325,000 jobs in Samsung's home market of South Korea

Apple has created a new web page announcing that it has “directly and indirectly” created more than 325,000 jobs in South Korea, home to supplier and rival Samsung.

It says that around 200,000 of these are associated with the App Store, suggesting that the majority of these jobs are in independent software development businesses…

Carriers throttle online video regardless of network congestion, show tests

More than 650,000 tests reveal that US carriers throttle online video on their mobile networks, and do this whether or not those networks are congested.

Leaked marketing images and name of the upcoming Sonos Bluetooth speaker

We learned earlier this month that we’d soon be seeing the first-ever Sonos Bluetooth speaker. Existing Sonos speakers are Wi-Fi-only, but the upcoming model is said to support both wireless communication standards, as well as offering AirPlay 2 functionality.

We’ve already seen one photo of the speaker, which looks like a more cylindrical version of the $200 Sonos One, but we’re today seeing more…

Parental controls for Spotify Premium Family rolling out, matching Apple Music

Parental controls for Spotify Premium Family are finally starting to roll out, though oddly only in Ireland for now. The company said today that other markets will get the update later in the year, without explaining the reason for the delay.

Parents will now be able to control the Explicit Content Filter setting of all other accounts on their plan (these parental controls are a long-requested feature).

The update is now available in Ireland and will roll out in all markets with Premium Family this fall …
