U.S. Senator Kristin Gillibrand wasn't the only Democratic Presidential candidate to call for expanded health care coverage, better public schools and more economic opportunity for working-class parents, but she was the only one to embrace her identity as a mom. Having kids was a feature, not a bug, she insisted, saying, "I will fight for other people's kids as hard as I would fight for my own." 

Still, she failed to break out of a crowded field and this week dropped out of the race. The 10 candidates who qualified for the next debate are a historically diverse group, with only three straight, white men among them.
