TicToc Tonight

Greetings, TicToc readers! Friday's almost over. Here's what's happening:

But first...

Trump OKs, then scraps Iran strike

It's too early to exhale after Trump's last-minute decision late Thursday to cancel a planned military strike on Iran after it downed a U.S. Navy drone this week. Trump tweeted "we were cocked & loaded to retaliate" but he stopped the strike minutes before, deciding it was "not proportionate" given it would likely kill 150 people. He said the U.S. would hit Iran with more sanctions, but the Treasury Department didn't announce any. Airlines worldwide diverted flights away from southern Iran after the FAA barred U.S. operators in the region.

Headlines from around the world

A Philadelphia oil refinery burst into flames overnight after several explosions shook nearby homes.

Hong Kong protesters were back after the deadline passed for the government to meet demands over the highly unpopular extradition bill.

Missouri rejected a license renewal for the St. Louis Planned Parenthood, moving closer to becoming the first state without an abortion clinic.

Ohio's Cleveland Clinic performed the first-ever in utero surgery on a fetus to repair spina bifida.

E. Jean Carroll, an author and columnist, alleged Trump sexually assaulted her in a department store dressing room in the 1990s.

Data of the day

Massive fireball. The Philadelphia refinery explosion was so large and so hot that it was captured from space in satellite infrared images, the National Weather Service said.

Lean back and watch

Biden's experience is becoming a liability. His decades-long record and recent comments are starting to dampen his 2020 bid.

"Toy Story 4" could buck Hollywood's sequel slump. The final Woody and Buzz chapter is expected to bring in $150 million this weekend.

James Comey hopes Trump isn't impeached. He wants Americans to "vote their values" to show that "this guy doesn't reflect them."

"Very concerning footage." Theresa May suspended a British MP after he forcibly grabbed a Greenpeace protester at a black-tie event.

Before you go

Hello, Summer 2019! Today's solstice marks the beginning of the season in the Northern Hemisphere. And early-rising visitors flocked to Stonehenge to get a front-row seat for the sunrise of the longest day of the year.
