Thea Lee of Economic Policy Institute on the battle of egos | | | WED, JUN 12, 2019 | | | | WHERE BUSINESS AND POLITICS CONVERGE | | Hi CapEx readers,
Thanks to all of you who joined us for yesterday's wide-ranging conversation on U.S. trade policy and the implications for our global economy. We hope you found it as thought-provoking as we did. For those who were not able to be there, we've got all the highlights for you in this week's newsletter.
Clete Willems, a former trade advisor to President Trump who played key negotiating roles in past multilateral summits, gave us his perspective on when we might expect a trade deal with China. In a conversation with Kayla Tausche, he said he doesn't expect to see a deal at the G-20 later this month, but it could be the catalyst for a "productive period of negotiations." You can read more of his insights – including his outlook on the U.S.-Mexico trade relationship – in our recap below.
For a deep dive into the complexity of U.S. trade policy be sure to read our recap of Tyler Mathisen's conversation with Thea Lee, president of the Economic Policy Institute and Craig Allen, president of the U.S.-China Business Council.
