Top honour for two Icrisat scientists
Two scientists of Icrisat have been selected for Icrisat's highest award for research, its Governing Board announced on Tuesday. Dr Mamta Sharma and Dr Pooja Bhatnagar-Mathur are joint recipients of the Doreen Margaret Mashler Award for 2018, for significant work in their respective research fields of plant pathology and biotechnology at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT).

Man who raped minor gets 10 years in prison
A local court sentenced a 27-year-old man to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor one year after he was arrested. Convicting S Anand and sentencing him to seven years simple imprisonment on the charge of rape and 10 years RI under the Pocso Act, judge M Latakumari also fined him Rs 25,000 each in the two cases.

Minority tag for schools: Government withdraws order on norm
The education department has withdrawn its controversial order on the norm to determine minority status of schools in the state. The order mandated that 25% of the total number of students admitted to a school in an academic year should belong to a religious or linguistic minority community for a school to secure minority status tag.
