Chennai Corporation launches reintegration programme for mentally ill
Going beyond the call of duty, the Greater Chennai Corporation has started a programme to reintegrate the mentally ill residing in its homeless shelters and has, in the process, set a benchmark for other urban local bodies in the country to emulate.

Focal Point police on Sunday arrested a mason in a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, as he allegedly brutally beat up a labourer — who worked under him — for Rs300, resulting in his death. The accused was identified as Pradeep Paswan of Jagdish Colony, who works as ‘raj mistri’ (head mason) and belongs to Bihar.

Water wastage: MC issued only 568 challans in 9 months
While the groundwater level of this industrial town is alarmingly low, civic officials seem unaware of the fact, and despite strict orders from the local bodies department of the state government to curb water wastage, they are hardly bothered. In a reply to an RTI application, civic officials informed they had issued only 568 challans for water wastage, but recovery was made from only 211 residents.
