Pakistan's former military ruler Pervez Musharraf was declared absconding in the Benazir Bhutto murder case. Nearly 10 years after her assassination, former Rawalpindi CPO (City Police Officer) Saud Aziz and former Rawal Town SP Khurram Shahzad were sentenced to 17 years in prison and ordered to pay a fine of Rs 5 lakh each. As an absconder, Musharraf legally must be arrested and brought to trial if he returns to Pakistan. The anti-terrorism court acquitted five people in the case.

India's GDP grew 5.7 per cent on a year-on-year basis during the April-June period (Q1). During the previous quarter (January- March), the GDP had grown by 6.1 per cent. The GDP growth rate has been slowing every quarter since March 2016, when it stood at a whopping 9.1 per cent. Analysts have owed the slowing rate of growth to disruptions in the economy caused by demonetisation and teething problems after the roll out of GST.

India posted 375 for five against Sri Lanka in the fourth One-day International of the five-match series. India did not get off to the best of starts by losing Dhawan early, but Virat Kohli (131) and Rohit Sharma (104) smashed the Lankan bowlers black and blue. Manish Pandey and MS Dhoni, too, steadied the ship. This is the highest total by any team against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka.
